In recent years we have seen big changes in the life and development of the church family at Muckamore. It is really exciting to see God at work across the church and local community. One of the recent exciting new stepping stones in the life of the church has been our new deaconess - Amy Magee - who has begun to work full time, alongside Peter, at Muckamore. We managed to catch up with Amy a couple of weeks ago to find out more about her, what her passions are and what her hopes and dreams are as she gets involved church family life.
“I’m Amy Magee and I grew up in Ballymoney. I became a Christian when I was eleven, and was involved in Girls’ Brigade and youth club throughout my teenage years. After school, I went to the University of Glasgow and studied Theology and Religious Studies. Throughout my time in Scotland, I always had the intention of returning to Northern Ireland to train to become a teacher. However God had other plans for me, as I ended up working as a youth worker in my home congregation, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Ballymoney. I felt that God was calling me to remain in Church work and it was around this time that the opportunity to train as a deaconess came across my path.I started the deaconess course at Union College in September 2009 and graduated in May 2010. It has been a busy few months as I started my probationary year in Muckamore at the beginning of June and got married to Simon at the end of June! We both already feel at home in Muckamore and are really looking forward to seeing what God has planned for us over the next year.
I hope to be involved in different aspects of the life of the congregation, including the mothers and toddlers group, the friendship club and hopefully set up a social group for the young women in the church. I am also looking forward to pastoral visits, which is a great way to get to know everyone in the Church family and local community.”
