Girls' Brigade

Girls' Brigade

If you’re female, between the ages of 3 and 18 years old, and free on a Tuesday evening, you’d be very welcome to come to a fun-filled night at Muckamore Girls’ Brigade.  Here you will make friends, develop new skills, have an opportunity to take part in games and sporting activities, serve the local community and learn about and be encouraged to follow Jesus Christ.

A varied programme is offered in each section of the Girls’ Brigade, designed to educate, challenge and inspire young girls in a safe environment of Christian teaching.  Some of the activities include craft, dance, sport (e.g. uni-hoc or netball), team games, choral speaking, and bible teaching.  We also encourage the girls to give back to the community through service to others.  In previous years they have held a charity fashion show, visited the elderly, hosted a dinner for their parents and gone carol singing in the local area.  Trips and a weekend away (for the older girls) are also included in our programme.

The aim of The Girls’ Brigade is to help girls to become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and through self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility, to find true enrichment in life.  The leaders strive to support the girls through daily struggles and issues they may face as they grow up.

The Girls’ Brigade runs from September to the spring time each year, finishing with a ‘display’ where the girls can develop their drama skills and provide a snap shot of what they have been involved in throughout the year, to family and friends.  At the end of our ‘display’ cups and prizes are given out in each section for the various activities and competitions.  If you’re thinking about joining us or know anyone else who would be interested, we would really love to welcome new members.  On your first night you will receive information about the company and how to get the appropriate uniform.  Check out the times below when your section meets:

Under 5s (age 3 prior to 1st September - Primary 1) 6.30-7.45pm
Explorers (Primary 2 - Primary 4) 6.30-7.45pm
Juniors (Primary 5 - Primary 7) 6.30-8.30pm
Seniors (Year 8 - Year 10) 7.30-9.30pm
Brigaders (Year 11 +) 7.30-9.30pm

Here’s a final thought from one of our leaders in the GB, Sharon Allen:

“I’m one of the Junior Section leaders.  I’ve been in the GB since I was 3 and have been an officer over 20 years.  I loved GB when I was a girl and I love it now as an officer.  The Juniors are a great bunch of girls - full of life, noisy and enthusiastic and all of this rubs off on us.  My Tuesday nights wouldn’t be the same without GB.”
